Making 3D Live Imaging Practical and Scalable with Viventis SCAPE
Professor Christopher Dunsby
Professor of Biomedical Optics, Imperial College London, UK
Read BioChris works on quantitative fluorescence imaging techniques for biomedical applications, including Förster resonant energy transfer microscopy, automated multiwell plate imaging, and fluorescence lifetime imaging. He has experience in super-resolution fluorescence imaging, optical super-resolution imaging, and super-resolved ultrasound imaging. He invented oblique plane microscopy, a form of light-sheet fluorescence microscopy that can be used on a conventional microscope frame to provide high-speed 2D and 3D imaging.

Postdoctoral Fellow, EMBL Barcelona, Spain
Read BioMarina trained as a physicist at the University of Buenos Aires and completed her PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics. She is currently a postdoc at EMBL Barcelona, focusing on tissue organization in organoid systems. She has been a light-sheet microscopy user since 2016, has been a teaching assistant in multiple courses, co-organized the EMBO Light-Sheet Course in 2025, and has been involved in beta testing the Leica Viventis SCAPE system for high-throughput applications.
CloseConnect the fundamentals of advanced light-sheet microscopy with real-world applications of faster, gentler 3D live imaging using Viventis SCAPE.
In this webinar you will:
- Understand how OPM enables gentle, high-speed light-sheet imaging using standard sample carriers
- Explore how Viventis SCAPE combines OPM and SCAPE principles in a practical platform for real-time volumetric live imaging
- See how scalable 3D live-imaging workflows can support more efficient screening applications in organoid systems
Discover how Viventis SCAPE—a single-objective light-sheet microscope based on oblique plane microscopy (OPM) and swept confocally aligned planar excitation microscopy (SCAPE)—enables high-speed, gentle 3D live imaging with a simple form factor.
In Part 1 of this two-part webinar series, the session will cover three segments:
Technology & Principles
Professor Christopher Dunsby, Imperial College London, inventor of OPM, will introduce how this approach enables light-sheet imaging using standard sample carriers such as slides, dishes, and multi-well plates.
Introducing Viventis SCAPE
Leica Microsystems will present its new single-objective light-sheet platform, delivering the power of OPM and SCAPE microscopy in a turnkey system with software and workflows optimized for diverse imaging applications.
Applications & Workflows
Dr. Marina Cuenca, EMBL Barcelona, an early Viventis SCAPE user, will present a pilot study demonstrating scalable volumetric live-imaging workflows for screening 3D organoid systems.
